About dr. Margarita Holsten

I am a Board Certified psychiatrist with 20 years of clinical experience and a founder of Timeline Integrative Psychiatry, which is a telepsychiatry practice available in California, Colorado and New York States.

All of my training took place in New York City where I grew up.  I completed my psychiatric training and fellowship at New York University (NYU) Medical Center after graduating from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and I have a B.A. from NYU in Psychology.  I have been a member of the clinical faculty at NYU School of Medicine supervising and teaching residents and on the clinical faculty at University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Although I don't offer stand alone therapy at this time, I  have an extensive training in psychoanalysis, somatic focused therapy, supportive therapy, mindfulness and meditation techniques that inform my practice.

Integrative Psychiatry
Foundation

"Our brain's performance is being gravely manipulated, resulting in behaviors that leave us more lonely, anxious, depressed, distrustful, illness-prone, and overweight than ever before. At the same time, we feel disconnected from ourselves, from others, and from the world at large."
From Brain Wash by Dr David Perlmutter, MD and Dr Austin Perlmutter, MD

The idea that mental health issues are caused by chemical imbalances in the brain is falling out of favor in the scientific literature. Integrative approach addresses multiple factors that are at play.  Did you know that 90% of your neurotransmitters are produced in your gut and not in your brain ? That is why integrative approach looks at your whole system.

Timeline Integrative Psychiatry was founded on a number of  principals such as evidenced based medical models, the latest research on micro-biome and nutritional needs of our bodies, meditation and mindfulness practices.

My approach is to work collaboratively with each individual to develop an optimal plan for them. The focus is on achieving the most clarity, wellbeing and performance. Integrative approach combines natural substances – vitamins and minerals to minimize (and sometimes eliminate) the need for psychiatric medications. I have a longstanding interest in spirituality and meditation, and when appropriate I incorporate meditation and other mindfulness practices in the treatment plan.
